lunasol and I really should start planning our Pride parade trip for this Sunday. LOL We have nothing planned out so far, not even how to get there. XD
I say we take Megabus up and then the subway to wherever. It can't be too hard to figure out which subway line to take, right? Famous last words. We'll end up on Staten Island somehow, knowing us.
I was just about to ask you about this. Whichever way to go that's cheaper is fine by me.
Didn't we accidentally go several stops too far on the subway when we were last in NYC? Weren't you seriously contemplating intentionally taking the wrong subway after we got back to the right stop? I think we should try and find a subway map NOW and plan this out. Because even that isn't a guarantee that we won't get lost, lol.
I don't even know where we're trying to get to yet. I should probably find out.
And we aren't taking a 3am bus. Just throwing that one out there, preventative measure and all.
Oh yeah, home is good. LOL I guess we'll just go the reverse of however we get there and take Megabus back. We should leave Pridefest before 7pm though. I say we leave the city at like 6pm, no later than 7pm. That means we'd need to leave Pridefest like an hour before our departure time.
Okay yeah. I was looking at Megabus schedules and there's a 5:40pm one from NYC, and a 6:40pm one. I don't know if we'll feel like we've had enough time if we leave the city at 5:40pm, and Pridefest around 4:30? Although i dunno, i've never been to this before.
Okay, so the 6:40p one gets into 30th Street at 8:40p, which is still way early enough for me to catch a train home from Philly.
In the morning, there's a Megabus that leaves 30th street at 8:30am, and gets into NYC at 10:30am. There's a subway stop right at the drop-off point (7th Ave and 28th St) and it seems like the line there leads straight to 14th St, and we could somehow get from there to 6th Ave on the L line.
Lol, well at least one of us can figure it out. For the bus home, we just have to get to Penn Station and then walk a block or so. There's a line from both Christopher St and 14th St that go there. We should probably still get a street map, because the subway map doesn't have all the streets on it.
Just to be safe, one of us should get both. That way we don't confuse the times. If you wanna get them I can paypal you the money later today. If you want me to get them, just paypal you the money and I'll print them out at campus.Or we can just show them the email confirmation on our phones and don't even need a printed copy.
True. I can get them, and you can even just pay me back Sunday if you want.
I feel like we should print them out (i can probably do that), because i'm getting a little nervous about how much we're relying on technology for this, lol. But we should probably also have the email confirmation on our phones just in case we lose the paper copies. I think i'm gonna see about printing out the screencaps i have of the subway and street maps just in case too.
OK that works! I can just give you cash on Sunday, since you have easier access to a working printer. Just let me know how much I owe you. Yeah, we are relying on technology a bit much. XD Heaven forbid something happens to the world's electronics (like in the most recent War of the Worlds movie). We'd all be screwed. I'd be sobbing over my dead macbook trying desperately to get online.
It's an iPod Touch, the only noticeable difference, to me anyway, between the 2nd generation and the 4th generation is that the 4th generation is slimmer and has front and back cameras. I'm sure there are others, but otherwise they seem to do the same things.
Hmmm. I'll look into the iPod Touch next. I should have gotten something bigger than the nano but I was feeling stingy that day and it was an impulse buy.
I think the bus is cheapest. LOL yeah we went the wrong way several times in a row on the same trip, I think. We kept taking trains that didn't stop at the stop we needed. XD I think a subway map and a street map are probably very good ideas. We can go to MTA for the subway map and probably plan out our trip using their trip planner. That should also give us a street map too, I think.
omg I remember us getting lost WITH the map and we had to take a cab like three blocks. And it rained randomly. XDDDDD
Oh for the signing I can't remember. I know that at one point I was trying to have us take the city bus from the Megabus stop and you wisely vetoed that idea and made us take a cab instead. LOL I was like, "BUT IT'LL WORK. I SWEAR. We just take this bus here...or maybe it's that bus. Uh and then we transfer at this stop...I think. Maybe. Um and then we probably go over this way and and...I PROMISE WE CAN TAKE THE BUS AND GET THERE. REALLY!" Yeah, me + travel plans= not the best idea.
Okay well currently i've found out that Pridefest goes from 11am to 7pm, and the parade starts at noon. Do you think maybe should aim to be in the city by 10:30, just to have some extra time?
The parade goes from 36th St & 5th Avenue to Christopher & Greenwich Streets, and Pridefest is from Hudson St between Abingdon St and West 14th St. I have no idea what any of this means. Do you think we should get a street map too?
I think 10:30 is a good idea. I'm looking at the route map now for the parade and I figure we should aim for maybe towards the middle or end of the route and find a spot there. So that determines where we get off the subway at. According to the map, Union Square station is kind of in the middle of the route and I know where that station is. Every subway stops at Union Square pretty much, I think. Well, most of them. So it would be easy to get off there without getting too lost. We'd probably need to hop back on the subway to go to Pridefest and get off at Christopher Street. We'll need to see what subway goes to that stop.
I think we should print out the map that they have online that I'm looking at now. It seems pretty handy.
I'm looking at Google maps, and it seems like there a few lines close to the parade route, but 6th Avenue and 14th St are the closest to what may be a performance spot? Idk, on the parade route map there are those like, 4 large white circles, which i can only assume are marking something. The closest station to Pridefest is 8th Avenue, and it seems like the L subway line runs between 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue, so if anything we could take that to get from point A to be point B if we don't wanna walk. And the L also seems to stop at Union Square. So i guess we could do it all on one subway line?
Oh you're right that those circles are probably performance spots. Hadn't occurred to me. lol I don't think I've taken the L before. I take a new line every time I'm in the city, it seems. LOL
I don't think my printer is working at the moment so I don't know if I can print it out or not. I'll buy some more ink for my printer and try tomorrow or something and see if I can get the route to print.
Well i managed to find a subway map app for my ipod, which gave me the idea of saving the PDF of the parade route to my ipod, which worked. So i guess we don't need to print anything out. The app needs wifi to work although it doesn't seem like the map itself should, but i also saved screencaps of the stops and lines we (should) need to my ipod, so either way we should be okay.
