Things recently went a little wonky and I've got no one to tell! My sister, both of my parents, and I saw a big orange thing in the sky (not the moon) yesterday (Saturday). It was the second time in a month for my sister and probably about the third time total since she was about nine.

Counting yesterday, I've seen it three or four times now (since I was six), both of my parents have seen it about the same number of times, and my older sister who lives in a different state has seen it at least once (she was 12 the first time).

A few other people around the country/world have seen the same thing and you can find them if you spend hours hunting online. In other words, the sightings are extremely rare and I'm certain that the stupid thing just isn't visible to most people.

I mean, it can't be visible to most people. The first time my sisters and I saw "the big orange thing," it was ginormous and covered the entire night horizon. It was so close you could see the craters and all. It's not even rust colored or like the moon during an eclipse or when your in a coastal town and the moon is low on the horizon. No, it's ORANGE and you just know immediately upon seeing it that it's not the moon, it's not mars, it's not anything normal. I can't really explain it, you just have to sort of experience it.

Anyway, as soon as you notice it, it shrinks rapidly and/or sinks quickly below the horizon and disappears within 10 minutes or so. And when I say it takes up the entire horizon, I mean just that. It's like what you would see if the moon was a few thousand miles away from crashing into the earth and that's pretty fucking disturbing (terrifying?) to see.

The first time my parents saw "the big orange thing" it was really huge for them, as well. I think my mom was in either Germany or Philadelphia at the time and she was a little girl (she's 52 now). She and her sisters passed by a building and when they reached the open space on the other side, this huge orange thing with craters was on the horizon out of nowhere. She doesn't know if it shrank and disappeared like it always seems to do because she and her sisters closed their eyes in terror and ran the rest of the way home without looking at it.

My dad was in his twenties when he saw the same huge orange thing on the horizon for the first time- he's 56 now. He was driving at the time and he floored it, only to be passed by a terrified cop who could also see "the big orange thing."

Friday night, my one cat had been acting absolutely insane and we kept saying, "What the hell is wrong with you, Party Boy (her name)?" All night long into early Saturday morning she was all over the place and just really, really agitated while I slept out on the love seat. She's not normally like that at all. A couple of times I woke up and she would just be frozen stiff and crouched over with her eyes wider than normal.

At about 6:10am, my sister comes stumbling out of her room and starts looking out of the living room windows. She suddenly mumbles, "Come to the room now!" I'm totally confused and ask her what the heck she's talking about and she just repeats the command. So, I dash to the room and she doesn't even have to say anything. I see that stupid orange thing out the window straight away and I know exactly what it is.

My sister had woken up to let one of our other cats out of the room and she saw it out of the window as she was getting up. Like usual, as soon as she noticed it, it started sinking down. She told me that she'd seen it about a month ago, but she didn't think to wake anyone up. Well, when the orange thing started sinking this time, she ran and woke me up and then I ran and woke up my parents who were sleeping in my bedroom next door. Again, I said, "Mom, Dad! Wake up and look out of the window!" My dad, who must've been somewhat awake already, immediately says, "Oh, it's that orange thing!" I never once opened the door or even told him what to look for, he just looked out of the window as my sister and I had done and knew exactly what it was.

I ran back to my sister's room and we watched the orange thing sink below the trees. My mom came out of my room and into the living room to check for the moon and she said that Party Boy ran to the balcony door, looked out the window, and dashed away in obvious terror. I was trying to calm her down after the thing went away and her fur was absolutely stiff. Her fur is only stiff when she's scared or angry and she wasn't angry. She finally did start purring, but her fur didn't go back to be it's normally fluffy texture until way later. I think she knew something strange was in the air on Friday night, HOURS before this thing appeared. Fromt he time that I woke up, the whole incident was over by about 6:20.

A pattern seems to be emerging here. The first time anyone sees "the big orange thing," it covers the entire horizon, you can see the craters up close, the environment goes completely silent, and it shrinks and disappears. Every time that you see it after that, it's hanging ridiculously low in the sky, is obviously NOT the moon because it's in completely the wrong spot (the last time I was able to look over to my right and SEE the real moon), sometimes you can see craters and sometimes it's a little hazy, and it sinks below the horizon and disappears that way, more than shrinking. It is ALWAYS the case that as soon as you notice it, it begins to disappear. As my sister said, it's like it's waiting for you to see it. Who knows how long it's hanging there before you notice, but the minute you do, it doesn't stick around. It's also ALWAYS the case that you wake up at JUST the right time or something tells you to go look out the window at JUST the right time. It's also ALWAYS the case that the first time you see it, when it covers the horizon, there's no sound to be heard. Maybe this is just because you're so concentrated on watching this thing, but I could totally believe it if there just wasn't any sound!

The times that it appears vary, but it's always at night. After thinking for a bit, my sister realized that often times, my family has seen it during times of significant change or something significant has happened after seeing it.

Whether these patterns hold true for the other few people who've seen this thing, I can't say. Those people are nearly impossible to find and I haven't asked.

I'm an atheist pretty much, so my best guess is that we're seeing a planet in some parallel-ish reality through the temporary opening of gateway that only certain people are senstive to. That's the best that I can do. I can't explain why it seems to show to my family during times of change without getting spiritual or something. If no other explainations turn up, I might just have to go with spiritual...

GAH! This is SO frustrating!
