K, so the official boards for the new Trek movie are lame as hell. This can not POSSIBLY be the same people frequenting the two boards. In fact, I know it's not. Here's what seems to be a somewhat typical post:

my dad thinks that the new movie will be a gate way to a new series
he thinks that the new movie will help us to get used to the new actors who play the caracters for the new series

do you think this would happen or not

i do know that they are releasing a hd version of the original series

Please note the "my dad."

I Got Bullied Again. Click To See Why its In The Movie Section

Ok, So I showed A Few Kids The Trailer. They thought It Was Good. One Kid Said He Would Watch It. But, The Same Two Kids Teasing Me About Trek Saw The Words Star Trek While I Watched The Trailer ( At The Bottem Of The Official Site) And Yelled Ou " Look, Hes On Star Trek" But, It Turns Out, The Kid That Was Going To See It Came Over And Pulled Them Off Of That. They Ended Up Being More Interested In The Car Going Down The Canyon. I Do Have Some Support , Though. One Of My Teachers Said She Was Going To See The Movie With Me. LOL. But, She Saw The Trailer as Well, And Liked It. I Did Feel UnComfy Watching It At School, And Showing It To Other kids, But, Hopefully They Will Go See It And Realize How Much They had Screwed up Treating Me Like That.

Every word? Capitalized? Really?

I'm Glad There Are New Fans, I Really Am! But I Swear To God I Could Type And Spell Much Better Than This At That Age. The ENTIRE Board Is Like This. So Much Fail In So Small A Space.

Completely different in tone to the startrek.com boards. And not in a good way. Yeah, there's lots of fan wank and stupid people who shouldn't have graduated from high school on the st.com boards but the majority of the people there can at least put together a proper sentence and have a substantive discussion that isn't entirely about the uniform material. Ok, so the material does get discussed but it's in a broader context and doesn't simply have an ENTIRE thread devoted to discussing the authenticity, or lack thereof, of the uniform material.

From what I can see, I think the difference is that the st.com board is dominated by long time fans and we're either hardcore canon Nazis or considerably more flexible canon purists like I am. At least we're not inundated with 12 year olds who can't type or spell but that's probably because we scared them away with ridiculously wanky discussions that delve into the theoretical underpinnings of String Theory and how it relates to the ST XI universe versus the TOS canon-verse and shit like that.

Whatever. I really hope they stay away. Far, far away. On Strek Trek XI: The Fail Boards. All they would do is mock us for our canon wank anyway.

I thought this Christmas was going to suck but it's turning out to be quite wonderful. :3

So we did our Christmas shopping for the Torres girls. Can I just say that I LOVE 5 Below? First time I set foot in that store like the week before last, I thought it was like the worst isle in Walmart. Crowds and mess EVERYWHERE. But today, I guess because I was shopping for someone else and with a purpose, I had the best time ever. :3 We got a ton of toys and fun items! Try as we might, we weren't able to find anything Camp Rock related for the oldest girl but we got her a Jo Bros poster (the cover of the Rolling Stone mag, after deciding that it was just this side of age appropriate- she's 10) because according to my sister they're in that movie. I was all like, "What's Camp who doing huh?" I vaguely remembered hearing the name and had no clue what was in it. Glad she knew! She's a drummer and trying out for the performing arts charter school this year so we tried to get some music related stuff. Among the items are this tin plate thing with Janis Joplin. She won't know who Janis is but she'll learn. I also got a cute pillow with little electric guitars on it and she likes Pokemon so we got her some Pokemon toys and trading cards. The little one loves Dora and Tinkerbell so we got her things like a Dora sticker set with 250 stickers and a Tinkerbell hat and glove set.

My mom, sister, and I split the cost so we could buy more items. We spent about $100 in 5 Below and then another $100 getting clothes for the girls from Old Navy. We didn't set out with the intent to spend so much but we just picked things within a certain price range and put tossed them in until it felt like the right amount. Old Navy has some FANTASTIC sales. I got the oldest girl this retro sweater/coat thing for about $23 dollars. The original price was nearly $60. Their mom said they really needed some more clothes, so they got a new pair of jeans each, a couple of shirts, a skirt, and a sweatshirt or jacket each. Plus a pack of socks.

Tomorrow we're going to buy the family food items for Christmas dinner. So far we have two chickens, a box of rice, and a couple boxes of pasta. We need more rice, pigeon peas, and I want to get some fruits and veggies. My sister's boss already brought in an Etch-A-Sketch and a lot of canned goods and her co-workers are also buying gifts and food.

This family is going to have a great Christmas! I want to buy a little something for Yimila too. I'm thinking something from Bath & Body Works would be nice.

My Christmas might be a little sucky with my parents split up and because no one could decide what to do (so we're not doing anything) but at least the Torres family will be together, happy, and well fed. <3 I think that evens things out.
