Right, so I'm a sucker for Creature!Draco + Mate!Harry fics and I found this wonderful page of recs. Dude, the commentary that goes with each rec is bringing on the lolz. It's very useful, however, and quite accurate.

And please, please, please read [livejournal.com profile] beren_writes's Gold Tinted Spectacles. It's novel-length and I lost literally almost two days' sleep because I couldn't stop reading. I just had to read straight through, that's how good it is. I started reading it on one archive (maybe The Hex Files, but I can't remember) and then it stopped there at like chapter 30-something. I totally had a moment of panic because I NEEDED to finish that fic. Fortunately, it's archived on her LJ too and it has the full fic there. I srsly might have cried if I hadn't been able to find the rest of it. :( ETA: I should mention that this fic is Creature!Harry + Mate!Draco, rather than the other way around.

Now then, back to the rec list to find something that will keep me occupied.

And this one isn't selling office supplies. YAY!

It's at a place called Bebashi. (www.bebashi.org) Please check it out!

Bebashi is an organization that provides services to AIDS patients of color in low-income areas. Here are the responsibilities of the position:

-administrative + data entry (Careware- input data regarding clients)
-working with volunteers and students (internships practicums)
-some interaction with clients (applications + food bank)

Seems a decent mix of stuff, opportunities to build skills, and there's room to move up to case management.

Also:

It's full-time, 40 hours a week, 9-5. I'd work some events outside of normal hours, but that's with practically any non-profit job. Best part is that there are health benefits + dental + vision, long/short term disability, life insurance, and paid time off. The salary is around $27K, I believe. I think that's what it said on the listing and I gave my range to him as 24K to 31K and he said it was on above the lower end of that range.

They didn't get many responses to the ad; that improves MY chances. :) The reason he didn't get many responses is because he purposely didn't put the name of the organization in the listing because they're an AIDS organization and I suppose he didn't want to scare people off. I would have put the name in to weed people out because if you're scared of working with AIDS patients, then you're super lame and don't need to be there anyway. :/ I think I either traced the name from the email or emailed and asked so I could check out the web page.

So it sounds like a good job. I'm also hoping to hear back from some that I applied to at Drexel University in the psychology department. One is a Research Technician position working with a study involving anger management and truancy (I think?) in children- lord knows that's a HUGE problem here. I'm pissed at a potentially missed opportunity at...somewhere. Their stupid call-in supplemental question system never worked for me and no one ever returned my calls to the helpline! :( Guess it wasn't meant to be.

Anyway, the interview is Friday at 10AM.

*I feel like I should have read more than 20 on that list. :( But I just don't like the summaries of the rest! Perhaps if half my bookshelf wasn't Doctor Who, Star Trek, and non-fiction physics books...

The Big Read thinks the average adult has only read six of the top 100 books they've printed below.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicise those you intend to read
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them.

here we go! )
