I couldn't do it. I was SO close to being able to wait until they showed season 3/29 (I think we're on 29, right?) in the States, but reading all the not so great reviews of the last episode and peaking at spoilers every so often...

I couldn't stand the wait anymore. I watched Smith and Jones online the day it aired and that was fantastic! Martha's everything I thought she'd be. :-) So tonight I caved and I set aside EVERYTHING, even Tokio Hotel, and all I've done ALL evening is watch Doctor Who.

Probably spoilers after the jump...

Shakespeare Code: Shakespeare will never, ever be anything but BORING to me, I'm sorry. Shakespeare in this episode was amusing as hell, though. Also, I love the concept of words being as powerful as mathematics and it was awesome to see "Cassie" from Hex. I thought the Rose mentions were appropriate, no matter how sick of Rose I am. And I'm really sick of hearing of her. Anyway, I know a lot of people were pissed at how the Doctor treated Martha and yeah it sucked but it was appropriate in the context of the whole post-Rose story arc. It wasn't anything overtly mean and the Doctor's comparisons of Martha to Rose are only to be expected since RTD *vomits in mouth* made Rose such a fucking Mary Sue. I've learned to accept that we'll forever be saddled with a FUCKING MARY SUE in Doctor Who for eternity.

Gridlock: The Face of Boe! *is sad* But yay for Novice what's-her-face, I love her and I'm glad to see her back. Very good story. Seriously though, who the fuck would stay in their car for like 23 years? You gotta be dumb as hell to do that.

Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks: Am I the only one who was really hoping Dalek Sec made it out alive in the end? I was a tad bit pissed that he died but it's sweet that he gave his life to save the Doctor's. Daleks with compassion, who woulda thunk it?! I totally got confused about the slightly contrived DNA splicing plot but whatever, it made just enough vague sense so that I could overlook how fuzzy the logic was. XD I'm glad Laslo or whatever the pig guy's name was lived in the end and how much do I love Tullula, three l's and an a?

The Lazarus Experiment (or whatever it's called): Eh, the evolutionary switcharoo thing was a bit hard to swallow. Really, how did all of that spider-form fold up into human skin? Yeah, I know about the changing DNA but genetics don't work quite like that. At least not that quickly. Wouldn't there be more blood besides? Oh well, it was another episode that I enjoyed immensely despite shaky logic and shoddy science. :-)

42: Weird. But good. A little too similar to The Satan Pit but I love the intensity of the action and the mood. Somehow I managed to NOT get bored even though the whole thing was them trying to open doors and get to a control room. ~_^

Human Nature: I'm on that now and damn this is FUN! Does anyone else wanna kick the hell outta that Timothy kid for opening the watch, though? And he's alittle thief to boot. Martha's super dedicated because I woulda holed myself up inside the TARDIS rather than deal with those racist, classist little bigots. Seriously. The TARDIS has food, it's on emergency power. I'm black, so I'd be in Martha's position and I'm NOT that patient, I can't stand being talked down to and I would've gotten my ass beaten, raped, or worse within in a couple of weeks. I KNOW it. Kudos to her for putting up with so much shit for two months. And OMG, I ADORE Jenny! XD Tallula and Jenny FTW! I nominate them for co-Companions to Martha.

Back on topic, I think this two-parter is possibly one of THE best Doctor Who story arcs I've ever seen and I'm saying this as someone who's seen nearly every episode of classic Who at least twice. I grew up on who Human Nature/Family of Blood is so fucking good. That's to be expected, considering who wrote the episode but it's nice to see work in the new series that's as fulfilling to watch as Caves of Androzani, Earthshock, or The Deadly Assassin (personal favorite for real). This two part story is right up there with them, IMO and I'm a pretty harsh critic of the new series at times. Freema and the character of Martha really boosts the whole series and the stories in general, IMO. Not to bring race into it, even though it's unavoidable, with Human Nature/The Family of Blood and even a bit with the Shakespeare Code you can add this whole deeper level because of who she is and what she looks like. It's this extra dimension that really gives the stories an emotional punch that you just wouldn't get with Rose. The racial taunting in particular just makes the story so real and makes Martha far more of a 3D character than Rose ever was, IMO.

Speaking of which, Martha will be back next season and we're going to get an additional Companion too! This makes me very happy because I miss the old days when the TARDIS crew was like a family. Tegan, Adric, and Nyssa were my favorite bunch because the 5th Doctor was my first. :-) I hope we get a guy Companion to set it off. Too bad it can't be Jack. *is sad*

ETA, Blink: Great, now I'm gonna be freaked out by statues for like the next month or so. This was way better than Love and Monsters and I actually kinda liked said episode.

Utopia: WOOT! The FUCKING MASTER IS BACK BABY. Ok, so yeah I knew he was coming back and the big reveal probably would've been way more satisfying had I not already known, but I was totally thrown off by when they brought him back, how they brought him back (clever!), and who the Master was (didn't see that coming exactly). It's good to see the Master, although I miss the facial hair even though Eric Roberts' Master didn't have facial hair either. Still, this latest Master seems quite off so far and I think I like it. XD

OMG Martha + Jack FTFW (for the fucking win). I'm actually going to bother watching more than 1.5 episodes of Torchwood this season (and only one of the 1.5 episodes was decent) because Martha and Jack are perfect together. Ok, fangirl dream: Can we have the TARDIS crew consist of Marth and Jack? It'll never happen, I know but seriously, the two are perfect with the Doctor and perfect together. I do like how they explained the Doctor abandoning Jack and it makes sense. However, if I were Jack, I still woulda punched the HELL out of him. Several times. Leaving someone like that is just NOT cool, no matter how freaked out you are by him/her even though the thing making him/her freaky isn't even his/her fault. Abandoning someone who just gave their life to help save your sorrry ass? That's unforgivable and maybe Jack's forgiven the Doctor but Imma be holdin' that against my dear Timelord for a while yet. You don't do that to people. SMH Martha and Jack can start a "The Doctor Doesn't Appreciate What He Has And He'll Regret That Later" club. S'okay, though. Mack/Jartha can have each other and be totes fabulous on Torchwood kickin' alien ass.

On to The Sound of Drums!
