5 5 5 5 5!!! Did I mention that I'm giving this 5/5? Martha is everything I hoped she'd be! I love her! This episode was really awesome and a great opener. The plasmavore was a little random, but they saved it by tying everything together. I wasn't too keen on the platoons of marching Judoon effect; that looked a little lame. I do love the Judoon boots and they're not nearly as cheesy as I feared from the pictures. In fact, they weren't cheesy at all. They were a nice, classic alien and I like how they weren't really good or bad, just a bunch of dignified mercenaries.
I love Martha doing the double CPR and giving the Doctor her last bit of air. The amped!MRI didn't make a whole lot of sense, but it's not bothersome enough to really matter a whole lot. I am glad that they explained the random, "Let's go to the moon!" thing and it was actually a pretty decent explanation although I didn't quite understand the explanation of the method that was used. Er, a thunderstorm can transport a building? Again, though, it wasn't enough to really ruin things for me.
The "bigger on the inside" was a cute moment. LOL Also, I like the crazy family. I thought it would kind of suck, but it's totally different to Rose's family, so it's pretty amusing, actually. I love the dad being like, "I'm putting my foot down! *stomp* This is me putting my foot down! *stomps after trampy girlfriend*" and then everyone scatters and Martha's left standing there looking exasperated. I like that the Doctor came back for her and that she wasn't all mopey because he left to begin with. Just like, "Well, that's that."
Ummm, what else... I thought Martha's phone conversation in the beginning was a little stiff and forced, but things picked up after those first couple of minutes. Oh! The getting-the-radiation-out-of-the-body bit. I was totally expecting a stupid farting gag right there and I'm glad there wasn't one! Shoe-less Doctor with no socks was very amusing! LOL Also, I liked how they kept us confused about the two Doctors thing until the end. I was thinking evil twin or something.
This was WAY better than Rose and I thought Rose was pretty fun. However, I don't really understand the point of showing a whole retrospective of Rose before the episode started. What was the point really? We know what happened and if you don't know what happened, how is the two minute "this is what happend the last two seasons" going to help you any? It tells you nothing and just comes off as slightly confusing if you don't already know what happened. It's just like, "Oh, there was another Companion before," but you'd have to be under a rock to not know that already.
The "Adeola was a cousin" explanation was a bit lame, but I guess they couldn't really do anything else about it. It would've been cooler had Adeola been Martha's twin or something. That would've been really easy. I wonder if Martha will ever find out that the Doctor sorta-killed her cousin and what the reaction will be? I like the juxtaposition between Martha and *inexplicably forgets the Runaway Bride's name* when Martha was listing all of the things that happened versus...er what's her face...not noticing any of those events. ETA: If they hadn't mentioned the Adeola-Martha connection at all, I wouldn't have noticed because up until the point where it was specifically mentioned, I didn't even remember that Martha and Adeola look the same. In fact, I didn't even think of Adeola at all. They could've just ignored the thing like the Sixth Doctor-Maxil similarity and been done with it.
Anyway, I'll stop rambling now. I really loved this episode, though, and I'm SO glad Martha has thus far lived up to my expectations. ETA2: I'm really surprised. That's two things in a row from RTD that I really like: The Runaway Bride and Smith and Jones. Am I being more accepting or is he improving? Oh, and let's hear it for mostly non-Earth! Who cares if it's just the moon. The point is that it's a round, non-Earth plantetary-like body that isn't a chunk of rock next to a black hole.
