Is my accent THAT noticeable? I can't tell you how many times in the past month or so I've been asked, "Where are you from?" or "You're not from here, are you?" My one co-worker even guessed the right state and almost got the right area. I didn't used to get that question nearly as often and I've been here for like 8 years now.
It's weird because I've noticed that the longer I'm gone from Maryland, the stronger my accent seems to get, to the point where even I can hear the difference now. Or maybe that's just it. I can hear the difference now whereas before I couldn't. Still, that doesn't explain the increase in "Where are you from?" questions.
Damn Tidewater accent...
What makes it worse is that it's mixing with a Philly accent so now I'm like "I want some BEGELS (Tidwater for "bagels") with my WOODER (Philly for "water"). It sounds just terrible. Not to mention the ghetto inflections I've picked up like, "I never seen that before." instead of "I've never seen that before." which then sounds completely out of place because the rest of the sentences afterwards are grammatically correct.
I seen the begels and wooder at the store.

It's a Tidwater accent but it's not very strong so it's very vaguely Southern. Most people say they can hear it on certain words but I guess they must be enough words so that they're like, "Eh?"
