I also want...
(I srsly just spent like three hours on this entry)
After the fiasco that was Nemesis, which I STILL refuse to see, and Insurrection, which put me to sleep (I still want my $7.50 back), this looks extremely awesome. The reboot or AU or whatever this is might just be a good idea for the franchise! I'm trusting you J.J. Abrams. If you mess this up, you WILL suffer the wrath of a million furious hardcore Trekkers. We'll come to your home and haunt your dreams. Trust me. You don't want to be as hated as Bermaga. I'm not sure there's anything you could do to be that hated, actually.
Things I like:
-I think they did a pretty good job of getting the old school look right without it looking cheesy. BERMAGA PLEASE TAKE NOTE- Enterprise the series fucking SUCKED partly for this reason alone. The prequel, in as much as possible, is NOT supposed to look newer than the er...sequel? when the sequel was made waaaay before the prequel. It's inevitable that it'll look a bit shinier, that can't be helped, but try to keep the shiny to a minimum plz.
-Zachary Quinto makes an awesome Spock! I wasn't sure how that would turn out when they first cast him becaue I was all like, "SYLAR? YOU PICKED SYLAR?!" And totally forgot that he's, you know, an actor and he can play different parts. >_< I think everyone had the "SYLAR?!" reaction at first, though. Spock is my favorite TOS character. It's not easy to play a Vulcan well, particularly not a half-human one who's as complex as Spock but he's soooo good as Sylar so I know his acting chops are ace and he definitely looks the part and that's half the battle. I think he'll pull it off just fine and I couldn't be happier (now) with the casting choice. I am now officially a Quinto!Spock fangirl. Before the movie's even out! That's how certain I am that he'll do fine. Just look at his bearing and presence (below). It's PERFECT. And how lucky am I that I get to lust over not only Nimoy!Spock but Quinto!Spock now too? :D

Yeah, I'm fangirling HARD. This. Is. Spock.
-Jon Cho as Sulu? What's not to love about that? I'm not sure he was the most obvious choice but I love the guy and well yeah. He gets an automatic OK from me. Although, Sulu was a tad bit sexier... Well we'll just assume that he buffed up a few years on. I can easily see Cho!Sulu becoming Takei!Sulu.
-The uniform boots are less stupid. The dumb little heels always bothered me and now they're gone so I'm happy.
-The pants are better. They look less retarded. No stupid cropped, flared shit.
Things I'm not so sure about:
-The dude who plays Kirk. This one concerns me the most. Kirk, like Spock, is hard to get right. I'll need a bit more time to figure out what I think of him. I'm just worried that they'll make him into a total unlikable jackass. Yes, Kirk is cocky but it's a GOOD kind of cocky where you're rooting him on like, "FUCK YEAH, KICK SOME ASS AND GET THE GIRL!" This Chris Pine feller (who?) makes me nervous because he seems like he runs the risk of being TOO cocky...but I suppose that might actually be realistic, seeing as how Kirk always seemed like he'd be a bit of a hellraiser at the Academy. Man, I hope they got this right or I'll be a very unhappy Trekker. >:( Please don't make me hate James Tiberius Kirk. :*( I'm really, REALLY nervous about this.
-I'm not sold on Karl Urban as Bones. WTF kind of choice was that? But he's a good actor so I'm counting on him to make it work. Hopefully. They did do really well with making him look the part, though. *crosses fingers*
-Simon Pegg as Scotty... Er, OK. The longer I stare at him, the more he looks like Scotty so it might work. I'm still not sure about it. I've only seen him in Shawn of The Dead, which is causing some perception problems, even though I think that movie's awesome. My sister, who's seen him in other stuff, assures me that he's a good pick.
-Anton Yelchin. As Chekov? When was Chekov every curly haired? And who the hell is Anton Yelchin? NOT sold on this one AT ALL. Dude looks nothing like Chekov so I hope his acting distracts me from the fact that Chekov apparently had an 80s perm pre-Enterprise assignment. Like WTF, yo?
-Don't know who the hell Zoe Saldana is but she's convincing as Uhura. In terms of looks and poise, at least. We'll see about the acting. BUT DOES SHE SING?
-How well will this fit into the Trek timeline? Enterprise, and Voyager even to some extent, already screwed the timeline up enough. And can I just mention what a disaster Enterprise was for oh so many reasons? I liked the first season, but then they took continuity and gave it a thrashing and made every single Vulcan OOC. That takes talent, the fuck up the characterization of AN ENTIRE SPECIES. So now nothing makes sense without jumping universes and creating alternate timelines, which is what I choose to do. Enterprise isn't in the same universe as TOS. It's the ONLY way it makes any sense. It's that or just ignore it completely as some people do. So yeah, either say this is AU or make it fit some sort of way. I'm comforted by the fact that the script was good enough for Leonard Nimoy to sign on to. It can't be that bad if he said "yes" to it. I just don't know how they'll explain everyone knowing everyone else (and working with them!) before they actually did. *wrings hands nervously* I'm OK with mucking up the order of know events a bit and altering the past, just as long as you can explain it and IT FITS. S'all I'm askin'.
-Is this a reboot or not? No one's made that clear. It can't be "just a movie." There's a whole history to be accounted for. I'm not sure how it can be a reboot because Nimoy!Spock is in the movie. o_O I guess it's going to be a surprise?!
ETA before publishing post: I just found this post and I feel a little better now about the timeline and the canon. :) PLZ TO NOT BE LYIN' TO ME?
Things that aren't super important but still concern me anyway aka me being nitpicky
-The Arrowhead insignia. It's wrong. I know that seems nitpicky but it's important. It's WRONG. The arrowhead is supposed to be specific only to the Enterprise during the 23rd century. They're not assigned to the Enterprise yet, why are they wearing it? Furthermore, why are they wearing ones that are the wrong design?
-Motorcycles and combustion engine cars? Wut? Wasn't expecting that, although I guess it could make sense since in ST IV, Sulu mentions having flown something similar to a helicopter when he was at the Academy so they apparently had somewhat "old style" stuff. But I still wasn't expecting to see cars and motorcycles with a freakin' starship in the background. lol
-The material of the uniform shirts is weird. Not a huge thing but I don't see what was wrong with using cloth of the same texture as the TOS shirts.
-THE LADIES' SKIRTS ARE TOO FUCKING LOOOOONG. I like the micro-minis and I don't see why they didn't keep them. Nothing wrong with them and they're easier to move in.
-The villian reminds me of the bad dude from Waterworld.
-Pine!Kirk's lack of a uniform top. Shatner!Kirk would have gone all the way and lost the entire set of tops. XD
-I'm kind of sad that the buttons and controls actually have labels now. The fact that they don't in TOS and nobody ever really notices always made me lol. I didn't notice until this past year when someone mentioned it. This despite the fact that I watched my first episode of Star Trek (TNG) when I was a little less than four years old (and I remember it!) and have been watching TOS since I was about 11.
Things I hope for:
-Some good slashy Kirk/Spock subtext. Plz? Shatner!Kirk and Nimoy!Spock did it soooo well even though they sorta kinda didn't mean to, even though they're totally cool with the slashers and kind of agree with us, which is why they're both full of awesome and win. You're bold and daring J.J.Abrams, right? My favorite part in the trailer and my favorite photo so far are the ones where Pine!Kirk and Quinto!Spock are fighting. Sexy as hell. Pine!Kirk and Quinto!Spock are both tasty morsels, it would be a shame to waste them.
-Plz don't let this movie blow. Plz? Pretty plz? Not after the last two disasters, please don't disappoint us like Bermaga did in the end. I'm sure the movie will have a great opening but that doesn't mean it'll be any good. At least it can't possibly be worse than Insurrection. Or from all accounts, Nemesis. I'm more concerned about the script than the actors because they have enough excellent actors to carry the movie (or at least save it from complete and under suckitude) should the other half of the cast suck big donkey balls. And it still can't ever be as bad as Insurrection and Nemesis. Lemme just repeat that a third time: It can't ever be as bad as Insurrection and Nemesis. Even the worst TOS cast movie is a million times better than those two pieces of crap. It can't ever be as bad as Insurrection and Nemesis. I'll just remind myself of that if I start cringing during the movie.
-I hope this is the jolt that the franchise needs to revive it. Maybe we can get a steady series of movies or even a TV mini-series with this. I'll just be happy with more movies. :)
Finally:
I know it looks like I'm so unsure of this movie that I probably shouldn't be excited about it but I really am super excited. I'm totally psyched for it and fangirling like MAD. XD The things that I AM sure about are of great enough importance to me that it equals out with the things that I'm NOT sure about. Many of the "not sure" are things that probably won't ruin the movie if they screw up on them. The only two that really concern me are the timeline issue and the Pine!Kirk issue. Mostly the timeline. That's a potentially huge problem and I'm pretty much a purist when it comes to that so this a big deal to me.
And one final photo to lead us out:

Btw, is it wrong that I would still choose to sleep with Nimoy's Spock over Quinto's? And I don't mean Spock from TOS. I mean, Spock now.
Hate me if you must!
